The purpose of this policy is to ensure a safe, healthy, and productive working environment within My STEM Institute. Misuse of alcohol and drugs can adversely affect health, safety, performance, and the organization’s reputation. This policy provides clear standards and responsibilities for all employees and affiliates.
Scope
This policy applies to:
• All employees, contractors, interns, and temporary staff of My STEM Institute.
• All premises, facilities, vehicles, and equipment owned or managed by My STEM Institute and its associated legal entities.
• Off-site locations where business-related duties are carried out, including training programs, school visits, events, conferences, and client premises.
Definition
• Alcohol misuse: Consumption of alcohol in a way that impairs judgment, safety, or performance.
• Drug misuse: Use of illegal drugs or inappropriate use of prescription or over-the-counter medication that impacts work performance or safety.
• Impairment: A reduced ability to perform tasks safely and effectively due to alcohol or drugs.
• Prohibited substances: Any illegal drugs, unauthorized prescription medication, or alcohol consumed in breach of this policy.
Policy Statement
• My STEM Institute and Direct Consulting & Services Sdn Bhd maintain a zero-tolerance approach to the possession, use, distribution, or sale of illegal drugs and unauthorized alcohol.
• Employees must report to work fit for duty and free from the influence of drugs or alcohol.
• Alcohol may be consumed in a responsible and moderate manner only at official company events authorized by senior management.
• Employees using prescription or over-the-counter medication that may impair their performance must notify HR or management in confidence.
Prohibited Conduct
Employees must not:
1. Report to work or remain at work impaired by drugs or alcohol.
2. Possess, distribute, sell, or manufacture illegal drugs or alcohol on company premises or during company activities.
3. Misuse prescribed or over-the-counter medication.
4. Consume alcohol during working hours unless management authorizes it.
5. Operate vehicles or equipment under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Roles
All employees and associates:
– Always adhere to this policy.
– Seek assistance if experiencing substance misuse.
– Report hazards or concerns related to drug and alcohol misuse.
Drug Test
Where permitted by law, the company may conduct:
– Pre-employment screening.
– Random testing for high-risk or safety-sensitive roles.
– Post-incident testing following accidents or near-misses.
– Reasonable suspicion testing where behavior indicates possible impairment.
Refusal to participate may be treated as a policy violation.
Violations of this policy may result in:
• Disciplinary action, including verbal/written warnings, suspension, or termination.
• Reporting to relevant legal authorities if laws are breached.
This policy will be reviewed annually by Direct Consulting & Services Sdn Bhd to ensure compliance with Malaysian legislation, industry standards, and organizational needs. Any amendments will be authorized by senior management and communicated to all staff.
Confidentiality
All employee information disclosed under this policy, including medical details, will be treated confidentially and shared strictly on a need-to-know basis.
