HULU LANGAT, 12 October 2022 – On October 12, SMK Dusun Nanding was completely transformed into a vibrant hub of innovation for STEMFest PPD Hulu Langat. The event brought together students from four different schools across the district for a hands-on celebration of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
The festival’s primary goal was simple: get STEM out of the textbook and into the real world. This was made possible through strategic partnerships with Creative Minds, Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) and Pusat Sains Negara. Together, they created a dynamic learning environment where students could roll up their sleeves and dive into interactive activities designed to push their creative and critical thinking.
Rather than just listening to lectures, participants engaged directly with the technology. Students had the exciting opportunity to program and pilot robots, turning abstract coding concepts into practical, hands-on fun. They also put their logic and problem-solving skills to the test through competitive math games that made the subject exciting rather than intimidating. Meanwhile, real-world science took center stage through hands-on experiments ranging from everyday physics to environmental sustainability allowing students to see exactly how scientific principles apply to daily life.
Beyond the technical skills, the festival served as a masterclass in teamwork. Students collaborated in groups to tackle challenges, brainstorm ideas, and present their projects.
With teachers and industry partners right there to mentor and guide them, the students were able to build up their communication and leadership skills in a highly supportive and inclusive environment.
For the organizers, STEMFest is all about planting a seed. By catching students’ interest early and showing them what real-world applications look like, the festival aims to bridge the gap between classroom education and future industry needs. As Malaysia continues to push forward in science and tech, initiatives like this are exactly what is needed to build a generation of confident and future-ready innovators. Ultimately, STEMFest PPD Hulu Langat was more than just a school event for the kids involved it was an eye-opening day that turned a casual interest in science into a genuine passion.
